Music Drabble Challenge

Vanessa Carlton- Twilight
             Darren walked into the coffee shop. "May I help you?" ask a small, burnete woman who was cleaning out a coffee maker behind the counter. "Yeah. I just want a chocolate chip cookie," Darren replied as he pulled out a few bills out of his pocket. The woman washed her hands and then pulled out a cookie from the display, put it on a napkin, and handed it to him. Darren tried to give her the bills. "No need to pay. It's on me," she said as she winked at him and continued to clean the machine. Darren looked back outside. It was still twilight, not yet safe for him to go out, seeing that he was a vampire. He barely made it in this shop without getting burned, but he was really hungry and the shop wasn't far from the gutter he was living in. Darren walked over to a table near the counter so he could still watch the woman as he ate his cookie. The woman looked up, sensing she was being watched. "Yes?" she asked, looking at Darren. "I was just wondering, what's your name?" he asked, slightly uncomfortable. "Ember. Ember Sterling. You?" "Darren. Darren um... Shan." "Nice to meet you Darren Um Shan," she said teasingly. Ember turned around and started cleaning again. What I wouldn't give to date her. Darren thought as he sat there, watching Ember, and eating his cookie.

             Darren looked across the table at Ember. Wow! She's so beautiful! He thought just as the waiter came to get their orders. "So, what do you do again?" Ember asked after the waiter had left. "Um..." You better think fast Darren! "I'm a lawyer." "Really?" Ember looked at him thoughtfully, weighing wether that was the truth or not. "Yes." Darren said without missing a beat. "Mhm." Ember still wasn't sure but then again, why would he need to lie to someone he just meet? "And I guess you just work at the coffee shop?" Darren asked her, trying to get the attention off of him. "No, I'm also an 8th grade English teacher," Ember said flatly. Is there anything else she can surprise me with? Darren thought just as the waiter came with their food.

             "GET AWAY FROM HER!" Darren yelled at the man who now held Ember in his arms. The night had gone perfectly until he had come along. "Come on Ember," the man sweetly said, "I'm so much better than your little boyfriend. Come be mine." Steve. Darren thought bitterly. Steve was always taking stuff and people from him now days. "Never!" Ember screamed as she tried to wiggle out of Steve's arms. Darren ran over to her and ripped her from Steve's grasp. "Go die in a pit!" Darren spat at Steve as he picked Ember up in his arms and ran her to her house. Steve watched them go.

Alfa Dog- Fall Out Boy
             "Stop here!" Ember squealed as she saw her house blur by. Darren stopped and then backtracked to the house. "How did you do that?" she asked. "Do what?" "Save me from that guy and running that fast? And who was that creep anyway?" "I'll tell you once you're inside and safe." "Fine." The two walked hand in hand inside Ember's small house. Once inside, Ember sat down on her couch and glared at Darren to give her answers. "Okay. First answer, He's weak. Second, I can't tell you. Third, he's the.. 'Alfa Dog' of a... cult." "Okay, I guess I'll have to stick with those answers for now," Ember said as she stood up. "Do you want anything to drink?" she asked as she walked into her kitchen and began washing her hands. Blood. Darren thought but didn't dare say it out loud. "Coffee," he said as he winked at her. Ember playfully threw the towel she was drying her hands with at him.

Seventeen- Last November
             "So Darren," Ember said sipping her coffee and setting it on the table, "how old are you anyway?" Forty-nine. "Twenty four." "You don't look twenty four. You look more like-"  "Seventeen. Yeah, I know. I'm cursed with looking young." "That's not always a bad thing, Darren." "It is sometimes." Almost always. Ember looked at Darren with compassionate eyes.  She moved over closer to him and gently lifted his head up by his chin. "Darren, it's okay. So you look a little younger than you really are. So what. It could be worse. You could be a werewolf or a zombie or even-" "A vampire?" he looked her in the eyes. "No. I was thinking fat or old." They both laughed. Darren looked at Ember and kissed her. When he pulled away, she blushed and looked down.

Super Honeymoon-Owl City
             "I love you," Ember whispered into Darren's ear. "I love you too." The two lay in a dark hotel looking up at the ceiling. Darren looked over at Ember and saw his little princess going back to sleep. They've only known each other for seven months but here they were, married and on their honeymoon. Darren never thought he could love someone as much as he loved Ember. Ember still didn't know his secret but it didn't matter to him at the moment. All he cared about was Steve not hurting her.

Love Song Requiem- Trading Yesterday
"Darren!" Ember called out. Darren was trying to catch her but Steve was running to fast. Darren kept running, trying to catch her. Every time he tried to grab her outstretched hand, Steve lurched forward. "Ember!" "Darren! I love you!" Ember dropped her hand and Darren stopped running. "I love you too!" Darren shouted as he watched his love being carried away. He dropped to his knees and began crying. He stopped, stood up, and began running again and saw one last glimpse of her. He closed his eyes, did the death sign, and went back to his house, knowing he may never see her again.

Darren was on his bed crying. It had been four months since Steve had taken Ember away. Darren hadn't left the house since the tragic day, except twice to feed on a cow and a stray dog. He now wished that he could sleep but even he knew that he would still see that tragic day play over. Darren wished that he knew where Steve was but finding the vampaneze prince would be next to impossible. Suddenly, the phone rang. "Hello?" Darren said groggily into the phone. "Yes, something tragic just happ-" "Don't even talk to me about tragedies!" Darren yelled as he slammed down the phone. Snap! Great, Darren thought to himself, now I have to buy a new phone! Darren opened the curtain slightly to see if the sun was gone. A ray of orange light came out of the slit. Not quite dark. Darren thought as he went to shower and put on some fresh clothes.

Julie- Last November
"Darren," Ember muttered as she rolled over. Suddenly, she awoke. "Oh, hello! So glad to see that you're awake beautiful," Steve said as he walked over to the bed. "Who are you? Why do you keep kidnapping me?" Ember yelled as she leapt out of the bed. "Now now. Calm down Ember. It's going to be okay. I'm Steve. Steve Leonard. And I'm not kidnapping you, I'm borrowing you." Ember just looked at Steve in awe. "What? You can't borrow people!" "Oh yes I can! You see, you're going to be the thing that saves me Ember." "And how am I going to do that?" she asked as she crossed her arms and rolled her eyes. "Well, I need fed and, well, you're looking pretty good right now," Steve said as he walked over to Ember and clamped a hand on her shoulder. "Don't worry. It doesn't hurt... much," Steve said as he breathed his intoxicating breath on her.

Is that her? That can't be her. Steve would have killed her by now. Wait! That guy with her looks familiar! Is that Crepsley?! I thought he died! Oh my...... Am I dead? Darren thought as he looked out his bedroom window and saw two figures walking down the dark road. He ran down the stairs and outside. He ran up to them and hugged both of them tightly. He looked into the eyes of his love and kissed her. He looked up at hid old mentor. "Thank you Crepsley. Thank you," He said as all three of them walked into his house.
